About this course

This lesson is meant to help you get more familiar with the new concept of LaunchDarkly custom contexts, which recently launched and may be a new way of working for you.

In an effort to make sure you have the most up-to-date information, and capabilities for managing your flags, we wanted to make a quick lesson to help compare the old world and new world, so you can get up-to-speed quickly, and so you and your team can take advantage of these new capabilities within the LaunchDarkly platform.

LaunchDarkly has introduced custom contexts in our application, which offers you much greater flexibility and granularity in terms of to whom and how flag values are served, while achieving the same goals but providing you additional capability to make more robust use of feature flags.

This lesson is intended for those with previous experience using the LaunchDarkly platform. For this new to LaunchDarkly, we recommend starting with the LaunchDarkly for Developers course.

After this course you should be able to:

  • Understand  the shift from users to contexts and use cases for creating targeting rules
  • Define LaunchDarkly custom contexts, context kinds, multi-contexts, context instances, associated contexts, and context instance versions
  • Explain common context attributes
  • Navigate the context lists
